Sketching Holiday in Queretaro, Mexico

November 2–9, 2024

Come explore, hike, sketch and paint the Magic Towns (Pueblos Magicos) of old Mexico. Pueblos Magicos are towns recognized by the Mexican government for their “magical” qualities, whether that be their astonishing beauty, rich history, or extraordinary legends. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Queretaro region. The week will be particularly helpful and instructive for beginner artists. We will sketch and paint in the magic towns of the beautiful Queretaro region. Day trips will include an ecological resort (Hacienda Tovares), a national cacti garden, a monolith in Bernal and more!

In the afternoons, Angela Cluer will share tips and techniques in the villa’s studio. Throughout the week you will be introduced to a variety of exercises on how to paint simple, yet creative watercolours. Join us for an fun week of travel, sketching and painting.

Angela Cluer

Six years ago, after a long career in the Canadian publishing industry, I took up painting, specifically watercolour landscapes. Why watercolour? The medium can be enormously gratifying when it all comes together but frustrating as well. A painter friend of mine once told me that “painting with oils and acrylics is like training a dog, painting with watercolours is like training a cat. “

I always start with a good composition; one that has just enough detail to pull the viewer’s gaze into the painting with a full range of values from light to dark.

I have enormous love and respect for the environment with its patterns, colours and textures. Mexico is such a beautiful country, I hope you will join me on our sketching adventure through the Queretaro region and share a glass or two of wine along the way!
